Clean Google Tag Manager Integration for WordPress

Built for Modern WordPress

Add Google Tag Manager to your WordPress site the right way. Uses core WordPress hooks—no theme edits, no messy code injection, no tracking you.

Groundworx GTM

Groundworx GTM uses WordPress core hooks (wp_head and wp_body_open) to inject GTM scripts in the proper locations. Works with any modern theme without modifying template files.

Features

  • Proper GTM placement: Script in <head>, noscript fallback after <body>
  • Exclude logged-in users: Disable tracking by user role (admin, editor, custom roles)
  • Works with any theme: Uses WordPress core hooks—no theme editing required
  • Lightweight and fast: Minimal code, maximum compatibility
  • Privacy-focused: Plugin doesn’t track or store visitor data
  • No ads or bloat: Does one thing well

Built the Right Way

  • Clean Code Injection: GTM scripts load in <head> and after <body> exactly where Google recommends—using WordPress standards, not theme hacks.
  • Role-Based Exclusions: Disable tracking for logged-in users by role. Exclude administrators, editors, or any custom role from GTM tracking.
  • No Bloat: One plugin, one purpose. No ads, no upsells, no tracking of your admin activity. Just clean GTM integration.

Perfect For

  • Marketing Teams: Deploy and manage tags without developer intervention
  • Agencies: Clean implementation across all client sites
  • Privacy-Conscious Sites: Control exactly who gets tracked
  • Development Workflows: Exclude staging environments and admin users from analytics
  • Clean Code Standards: No theme modifications or inline scripts

How It Works

  • Step 1: Install and activate Groundworx GTM
  • Step 2: Go to Settings > Groundworx GTM and enter your GTM Container ID (e.g., GTM-XXXXXXX)
  • Step 3: Optionally exclude user roles from tracking (administrators, editors, etc.)
  • Step 4: That’s it. GTM is live on your site.
Third-Party Service Notice

  • https://www.googletagmanager.com/ns.html (noscript fallback)

What gets sent:
Standard browser metadata (IP address, user agent, referrer, page URL) is sent to Google when loading these files.

When it runs:

Privacy policies:

Data storage:
